Talking to Your Teacher so your Teacher Understands You

teacher-tribute1WEB

Base on PTS Coaching If you learn better by listening and find note taking distracts you, perhaps you can ask the teacher (or a friend) for the notes.  Let the teacher know in advance so she/ he understands that just because you aren’t writing, it doesn’t mean that you aren’t paying attention.  If visuals help you, ask the teacher if she could present some of the material using some diagrams or charts perhaps.  Try to think of other times you have experienced successful learning in the past what made those methods work for you.  Very often teachers are appreciative of your interest and concerns and willing to work with you to help you achieve. The bottom line: teachers are people, too.  They can’t read your mind and don’t always know your concerns or intention.  Learning how to speak up for yourself and explain your needs and your rights is known as advocating for yourself.  This is a valuable life skill that you will use in many areas of your life.  Be prepared to tell your teachers how you learn best and how you work best to deal with your challenges – and how they can help you succeed.  Help them to see you as an individual learner who truly cares and is trying his/her best.  Take a chance and reach out to your teacher – you just might really benefit from the results.

How to Talk to Your Parents?

According to Teen Health Home  You need to talk to your parents about some things, like curfews and rides. But maybe you don’t like to turn to them for personal or social advice. You might be surprised if you give them a try.

“Nobody is going to care about and love you with the intensity of your parents — even when you’re trying to push away from them,” says Kathy McCoy, MD, a former feature editor of Teen magazine. “As intense and wonderful as friendships can be — and some of them are for life, but most of them aren’t — you can count on your parents when your friends might flake on you.”

Talking to your parents doesn’t mean you’re acting like a kid again. “You can ask their opinion and you don’t have to accept everything they say,” McCoy says.

How to Learn to Enjoy School More?

According to We Have Kids

Here are some helpful tips to enjoy school:

  • Attend school on a regular basis. It is vital that you attend school every day. Each day of learning may build upon the next, and missing classes causes you to fall behind and add more work to your workload. Of course there may be instances when you need to miss school, such as for an illness, but try to be there as much as possible.
  • Be prepared. Too many students arrive to school unprepared. Each night, pack your school bag, a lunch (or money if you buy it at school), prepare your outfit, and go to bed at a decent time.
  • Get enough rest. As already mentioned, try to go to bed at a decent hour. By ‘decent’ I mean any hour that will not leave you tired the next morning when you need to get up early.
  • Eat a healthy breakfast. Having a doughnut or skipping breakfast altogether are not healthy options when you need energy to get you through the first few hours of school before lunchtime.
  • Take classes that interest you, and make all others work for you. You may not be able to choose your core classes, i.e. English, math, or science, but you will be able to choose your electives. Electives may include Home Economics, Music, Foreign Languages, Photography, etc. Choose the classes that interest you or you think may be helpful to you when deciding on a career.
  • Participate in class. A sure way to remain bored in class is to sit at your desk and stare at the desk as the teacher presents a lesson. Want to make it interesting and make time fly by? Participate! Sure, most students think participating in class is only raising your hand to answer a question, but there’s so much more you can do
Didn't graduate on time

Base on CLASSROOM High school prepares young people for future success in higher education and beyond. In fact, according to the National Dropout Prevention Center, graduating high school sets the stage for the next 50 years of a person’s life. As of 2009, however, 1.2 million high school students fail to graduate every year. Not finishing high school can have major consequences for both young people and the nation.

Call parent

Why do some teachers immediately call the students’ parents?

According to Quora We have a disciplinary model in place now where often, you can’t request that a student get detention, suspended, or moved out of your class, unless you can document that you have made prior contact with the student’s parents. This is fair for the most part, but sometimes you need a student out of the room NOW, and if you can never get a hold of parents, that doesn’t mean that you and other students should have to continue to endure a habitually disruptive student.

Bored

Why Some Kids Are Bored at School

Base on Verywell Family Some parents jump to the conclusion that their child is gifted, that the work is too easy for him and that’s why he’s bored. Other parents jump to the conclusion that it is the and not presenting the material in a way that engages the students. While both of these are valid assumptions, they’re not the only reasons kids are bored in school.

Influence by friends

How Friends Influence Your Child’s Grades

According to Educational Connections Tutoring and Test Prep Parents may think they are the biggest influence in their child’s life, however that is usually not the case. As a child grows up, they do not turn to their parents or teachers for support and guidance, but rather their friends. Friends influence grades more than a parent may think. In fact, those who a student chooses to surround himself with can be the single determining factor on how well they will succeed in school.

Laziness

The Causes of Laziness

Base on Psychology Today Many ‘lazy’ people are not intrinsically lazy, but are so because they have not found what they want to do, or because, for one reason or another, they are not doing it. To make matters worse, the job that pays their bills and fills their best hours may have become so abstract and specialized that they can no longer fully grasp its purpose or product, and, by extension, their part in improving other peoples’ lives.
